Howell County, MO. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that they have received multiple reports of scam calls from residents.
These scammers are calling people and using actual Howell County Deputy names. They are telling residents that they have warrants for their arrests. These are scams! Law enforcement will not call you if you have a warrant. If you have one they will locate you in person and arrest you. They will also never ask for a bank wire, credit card, money gram, or Bitcoin payment. They will not ask for personal information over the phone.
If you get a call like this, just hang up on the caller, block the number, and call the sheriff’s office to verify. The number to call is 417-256-2544. Watch out for official-looking letters as well. Scammers will try to trick people with mail too.
Never give out money or personal information over the phone.
