Howell County Wanted Man Dead in West Plains After Standoff

West Plains, MO. – Last night, just before 8pm, the man who was wanted in the Howell County area for active warrants and a domestic disturbance in Willow Springs from May 13th was found deceased at a residence in West Plains.

This report comes from the West Plains PD, who state that officers arrived at a residence with knowledge of the suspect, Shawn Clark, being present. Clark did not respond, and it was determined that the man had barricaded himself inside the residence. During the operation, it was found an adult male and female were inside the residence, and were extricated without issue.

Negotiators with the West Plains Strategic Response Team attempted to negotiate with Clark even as Clark had fired multiple rounds from a handgun at officers.

SWAT Team members with the Howell County Sheriff’s Office then made entry into the residence, only to find the body of Clark, who was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.

No further injuries were reported by law enforcement.
