West Plains, MO. – As the winter weather looms over the rest of the week, Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative is asking the public to be mindful of their energy consumption over the next few days.
Stephanie Beltz-Price from Howell-Oregon has stated that power suppliers in the area are expecting the demand for energy to peak at some of the highest levels seen in years. This will likely put heavy strain on power infrastructure in the area, and could lead to higher costs on everyone’s power bills going forward.
As a way to lower your energy consumption, consider these tips.
- Unplug uneeded appliances.
- Insulate doors and windows with additional materials to retain heat.
- Lower the thermostat on your heating system a few degrees.
- Alternate the use of major appliances, rather than running them all at once.
- In the event of a power outage, turn off your power breaker so that the return of power doesn’t cause a sudden drain on the system.
