The HUD Section 8 Housing briefing scheduled to start at 10 am Thursday, March 19 at Ozark Action Inc. Building #2 off of E. Main St. in West Plains has been canceled.
“Following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding slowing the spread of the Coronavirus, we have decided it is the best interest of our staff and patrons to cancel Thursday’s briefing,” stated Ed Button, Housing Division Director at Ozark Action. “We tend to have around 50 people attend these meetings each month, and with the gathering guidelines dropping from 250 people to 50 people over the course of a few days, we have decided to cancel the event out of an abundance of caution.”
The Section 8 housing choice voucher program, administered through the U.S. Department Housing and Urban Development, is a federal program that helps very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market through rental and utility assistance.
The HUD Section 8 briefing for April is still scheduled to take place, however, those plans may change as the date approaches.
