Mountain Home, AR. – The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office arrested an individual after an incident on May 9th that ended with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
At roughly 9:50 PM, sheriff’s Deputies George Hinson and Timothy King responded to the scene where someone had called in about a scene where a man was beating another. While enroute, the deputies came across two separate victims from the incident, together with a 4 year old child, in a vehicle headed to the hospital in Mountain Home. One victim had obvious serious injuries to his face.
The deputies were informed that the suspect was still at the residence, and as they approached the residence, they made contact. A Ford Escape was approaching them at a high rate of speed, and the officers blocked the way. The vehicle stopped, and the suspect, Matthew Richard Sayger, 30 of Indiana, stepped out with a bottle of whiskey.
After a short standoff where Sayger wielded a golf club at the police while still drinking, he eventually tossed the club away and was arrested. On the way to the Baxter County Detention Center, Sayger had made comments stating he should have shot the man he has assaulted.
One of the victims, with whom Sayger was staying with in the home of his mother, sustained serious injuries in the event, the second victim and child were uninjured.

Battery in the First Degree – Felony
Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officer (2 counts) – Felonies
Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree – Felony
Assault on Family or Household Member in the Third Degree – Misdemeanor
Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the Third Degree – Misdemeanor
Refusal to Submit to Arrest – Misdemeanor
Driving While Intoxicated – Misdemeanor
Disorderly Conduct – Misdemeanor
Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test – Misdemeanor
Open Alcohol Container in Vehicle – Misdemeanor
He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
