Licking, Mo. – At 2:18 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2021, offender Orlan Helt, DOC No. 506757, confined to South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri, was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Mr. Helt was a 62-year-old male serving a 25-year sentence for second-degree robbery from Franklin County, three 15-year sentences for possession of controlled substance, and 2 counts possession of chemical with intent to distribute, and a 7-year sentence for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia all from Washington County. Mr. Helt was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections on June 5, 2006.
A Change.org petition for his release was started in May of 2021 after Helt was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
An autopsy will be conducted.
