Inmate dies at Licking Prison Sunday morning

West Plains, MO. – An inmate died Sunday morning at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri.

At 12:59 a.m. on April 9, 2023, offender Nathan Emery was pronounced dead at South Central Correctional Center. Emery was a 25-year-old offender serving a 5-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance exceeding 35 grams from Ray County, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Emery was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections on September 10, 2020.

An autopsy is set to be conducted to determine the cause of death.

In 2022, a wave of deaths of young inmates of SCCC was determined to be fentanyl overdoses and drugs laced with animal tranquilizers.
