An Ava man charged in a 2017 murder and indicted in January of 2024 will go before a Jury in May of 2026. Howard Applegate was indicted for First Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon (three counts), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (two counts), and Concealing a Felony.
Applegate is accused of killing Lance Terrill at his home near Seymour.

At the time of the indictment, Applegate was being held in the Douglas County Jail for his involvement in an assault that injured two, and put one man in a coma.
