Kansas man arrested in connection with Shannon County Homicide investigation

Shannon County, MO. – A Kansas man has been arrested after he was found in possession of a vehicle that was stolen from a suspected murder scene in Shannon County, Missouri.

Kelly G. Marks, age 41 of Olathe, Kansas, has been charged with Receiving Stolen Property and was taken into custody on December 31, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Investigators with the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control were investigating the death of a currently unnamed man at his residence in Shannon County. The victim was found with two apparent gunshot wounds, one in his head and one in his torso. Near the body were two expended .38 caliber casings and the entry to the home was open. Inside, the residence had been burglarized and the victim’s green Chevy Tahoe was missing. 

After the vehicle was entered into MULES and NCIC, the vehicle was recovered in Kansas City, Missouri on Dec. 31st and Marks was taken into custody by the Kansas City Police Department. Marks has a bond of $25,000 cash only.

There is no information that is currently linking this homicide case with the homicide case involving the missing Iowa man.
