WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Three ordinances updating criminal code in the city of West Plains to match state statutes were approved at the city council meeting Monday.
Officer Brandon Stephens with the department told the council that one ordinance would ban texting while driving for motorists under the age of 21:
Stephens added that the approval of the texting while driving ordinance would position the city better to receive grants from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The final ordinance deals with 4th degree domestic assault, a Class A misdemeanor:
The council had to approve the domestic assault and harassment bills twice due to a typographical error with the ordinance numbers on the printed meeting agenda.
