Lincoln School Dedication Scheduled for Monday

West Plains, MO. – The Lincoln School Project, an effort organized by local West Plains residents, Crockett and Tonya Oaks, is scheduled to have a dedication ceremony, symbolically, on Monday, January 15th, which coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Crockett has stated they are pushing hard to make this dedication a reality on this day, but he understands the upcoming winter weather may put a damper on the event.

The Lincoln School project was started by Crockett and Tonya as a way to restore an old building within the community that started as a symbol of segregation and is intended to become a beacon of connectivity and learning. You can learn about the Lincoln School Project by clicking here.

Bolaji Ogunwo, the painter who created the murals in Luster Arcade, just off the square, has returned to West Plains to paint a piece of art for the Lincoln School dedication. Below, he shares his thoughts on the project, as well as his creative drive for this painting.
