Malden man arrested on assault & burglary charges in Carter County

Van Buren, MO. – A Malden man is in police custody after allegedly assaulting a man he accused of sleeping with a woman.

Justin Wayne Morgan, age 44, was arrested on Nov. 14th on the charges of burglary, 1st-degree assault, 1st-degree harassment, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon – exhibiting.

According to the probable cause statement, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, shortly after 8 a.m.,  Morgan kicked in the door of a hunting cabin near State Highway Z, grabbed a man by the beard, and held a cocked handgun to his head, accusing the man of “sleeping” with a woman that Morgan was romantically involved with. After threatening to kill the man, he left the cabin with an AR-style rifle and a handgun. 

Aside from the victim, three other people in the cabin witnessed the incident.

Deputies with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office contacted the woman, who stated that Morgan had been harassing her for months. She stated he had threatened her and left threatening voicemails.

Justin Morgan was arrested by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office later that afternoon and is being held without bond.
