Man arrested on drug charges

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old James David Collins early Thursday morning on a methamphetamine possession charge after a deputy made a vehicle stop for a traffic violation.

At approximately 12:18 a.m. today, Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Zappa was driving behind a vehicle on State Highway 5 North.  He observed the driver cross over the center line multiple times.  The vehicle also had a brake light and turn signal light burned out.  Deputy Zappa initiated a traffic stop for these violations.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as James David Collins. While dealing with the traffic violations, Deputy Zappa asked for a drug-sniffing canine from the Mountain Home Police Department to be brought to the scene to sniff for drugs.  The canine alerted on the driver side door.  A vehicle search was then conducted. During the search, a small baggy of methamphetamine was found concealed inside the mouthpiece to the breathalyzer device that was hooked up to Collins’ vehicle because of a previous DWI conviction.
