Mansfield Man Arrested for Burglary in Douglas County

West Plains, MO. – A Mansfield man has been charged with burglary and more in connection with a break-in at a home in western Douglas County on November 24th. Jon Adam McCubbin, age 39 of Mansfield, is charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Property Damage, and Stealing after being arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the probable cause statement, a woman reported on the morning of November 24th that someone she had suspected to be McCubbin had broken into a house on County Road 406, southwest of Ava, and had damaged property and taken items from the home. Evidence was gathered at the scene. The woman suspected McCubbin because he had installed the cabinets in the home and had been seen on the road near the home on the previous night. Damage outside the home included where an outhouse had been pushed across the yard by a vehicle.

Jon McCubbin had been arrested the previous night on a separate issue and body cam footage of the arrest identified items taken from the home inside of McCubbin’s vehicle. In the video, damage to the passenger side mirror of the vehicle appeared to match the damage done to the outhouse.

On Nov. 28, the victim told investigators that she had spoken with McCubbin and his wife, where the conversation was recorded. In the recording, McCubbin admitted to the theft and damage, stating he had gotten rid of the stolen items at a Goodwill drop box in Mansfield.

Jon McCubbin was arrested and interviewed on Nov. 30 where he told investigators he had been “black out drunk” and did not remember breaking into the residence but he had the stolen items and his wife had attempted to get rid of them by putting them in the drop box.

The suspect is being held on $5,000 cash bond with stipulations and has a bond hearing on December 7 in Ava.
