West Plains, Mo. ― Matt and Kayla Franks and family of West Plains were among the families honored during the 67th annual Missouri Farm Family Day, Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair.
The Franks family was selected as the Howell County Missouri Farm Family by University of Missouri Extension in Howell County and the local Farm Bureau. The family includes two daughters, McKinley and McKena.
Each year, the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state that are active in their communities, involved in agriculture, and/or participate in local outreach and extension programs such as 4-H or FFA.
Matt works for Missouri Department of Conservation as a Conservation Agent and Kayla is a teacher at Junction Hill School. The Franks family own 40- acres where they raise goats, horses and chickens. McKinley and McKena are members of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club. Matt also works alongside his grandfather, Kenneth Skaggs, where they run a Commercial cow/calf operation on 240 acres.
The annual event is sponsored by five partner agencies: the Missouri Farm Bureau; the Missouri Department of Agriculture; the Missouri State Fair Commissioners; the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; and MU Extension.
The event showcases the impact that Missouri farm families have on the economy and heritage of the state, said Missouri State Fair Director Jason Moore.
