MDC Offering Free Virtual Mushroom Hunting Class

Missouri and Arkansas-  As you all know, when spring comes so does new growth. That means mushrooms. Specifically, that means morels. This sponge-like mushroom can be found and devoured in springtime, and now, if you are a first-time hunter you can know what to do and what not to do in the art of mushroom hunting.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is offering a free virtual Mushroom Hunting 101 class, for anyone interested. The class will be held on March 16, 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. The class is open to all ages. You are required to register, which you can do by visiting https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/197609. During the class, you will be taught how mushrooms are produced and their role in nature. MDC naturalist, Nikki King, will be explaining where and how people can hunt for mushrooms, as well as, how to identify whether the mushrooms are edible or not. For more information on the mushrooms you could hunt in spring you can visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website, https://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/morels.
