Microbial Antibiotic Resistance Research Taking Place at MSU – West Plains

West Plains, MO. – Missouri State University – West Plains is giving their students a unique opportunity to join in research that could impact medical care the world over.

This comes in the form of studying microscopic entities with antibiotic resistance. This research comes amid a worldwide science community fear that many of the diseases and infections we treat with antibiotics will become resistant to those same methods.

Priority Pet Care – Make An Appointment

This arm of research includes students taking soil samples from our local area and studying them for the presence bacteria, fungi, and plant or animal cells that exhibit these resistances. Then, the results are sent to a national database.

This project, led by Dr. Sharath Rongali, assistant professor of biology, is reported to be the only of its kind in Missouri.
