Missouri makes big sales with first weekend of recreational weed

West Plains, MO. – The first weekend for recreational marijuana sales went from Friday, February 3rd through Sunday, Feb. 5th and sales were high. According to the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association, marijuana dispensaries sold over $12.6 million worth of products in adult-use sales in Missouri during this period.

Amy Gutscher, manager at The Source, a local marijuana dispensary located in the Bruce Smith Parkway Center in West Plains said the weekend was “pretty crazy”. According to Gutscher, sales at The Source for Friday and Saturday were three times the amount normally sold during a typical weekend. When asked about customers, Gutscher said “We had a lot of out-of-state customers. Many came from Arkansas and Missouri.” She also had customers from Illinois, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

If recreational marijuana sales will keep the industry booming or if it is a passing trend remains to be seen. One point of interest is how legal marijuana purchases could be safer than black market ones. Safer due to higher amounts of regulation and testing that will help users avoid accidental fentanyl overdoses.
