Missouri – On March 4, 2024, the Missouri State University Board of Directors announced that Dr. Richard Williams would become the 12th president of the University starting on July 1, 2024.
Last fall, MSU launched a nationwide search for a new president when President Cliff Smart announced that he would be retiring after serving the University for 13 years. Ricard Williams has 25 years of leadership in higher education. Williams started his education career as a faculty member working his way up from there to dean, then provost, and eventually getting to president. He served as president at the Utah Tech University from 2014 to 2024.
The search process was led by a presidential search committee which consisted of board members, community members, alumni, faculty, staff, and students. There was an on-site interview with each member of the committee and the board wanted to note that the campus input played a key role in the hiring process.
