Missouri State University – West Plains Offering Free Classes To Senior Citizens

West Plains, MO. – Not every person had a chance to finish their school career so Missouri State University-West Plains has announced its new program to let area residents aged 62 or older take classes. During the 2024 fall semester, the Senior Citizen Fee Waiver program will start. 

Senior citizens can register beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 16, at the registration and records office in West Plains to start classes on Monday, August 19, 2024. To register senior citizens should be fully admitted to the university as non-degree-seeking students and follow the regulations outlined for non-degree-seeking students.

The Senior Citizen Fee Waiver Program allows Missouri residents to take tuition-free academic courses the university offers on a seats-available basis. Eligible senior citizens can take one class per semester using the waiver and the maximum credit hours allowed with the waiver is 24. Seniors must pay supplemental course fees and the costs of required textbooks and supplies, if applicable. They also should note that classes with less than 10 students registered might be canceled.

There are several courses that will not be available including online, nursing, welding, viticulture courses, and any courses offered in conjunction with the Southern Missouri Technical Institute in West Plains.
