Missouri to Hold State-wide Earthquake Drill

Missouri – Next month, the state of Missouri, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), will be holding an earthquake drill. This is due to the Missouri Bootheel being at the center of the New Madrid Seismic Zone.

This particular drill will be held specifically on October 17th at 10:17am, and those participating are expected to practice the “Drop, Cover, Hold On” technique in case of emergency. This technique, very simply, requires someone to drop to their hands and knees, cover their head and neck with their arms or a table, and stay put until the shaking stops.

According to SEMA, the New Madrid Seismic Zone produced some of the largest earthquakes in U.S. history during 1811 and 1812.
