Missouri Voters Get To Vote For Abortion Ban, Raised Minimum Wage, And Other Constitutional Amendments On November Ballot

Missouri – For the last couple of months, citizens of Missouri have been gathering signatures to put ballot initiatives on the November ballot. On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Secretary of State added up the amount of signatures turned in to decide if there was enough to make the initiatives appear on the ballot. Three of these citizen-led ballot initiatives will appear and include:

  • Amendment 2 – If voted on and passed, this will legalize sports betting in Missouri.
  • Amendment 3 – This amendment will amend Missouri’s constitution by removing Missouri’s ban on abortion and guaranteeing a woman’s right to have an abortion and access to contraceptives without governmental interference.
  • Proposition A – This will amend state law by raising Missouri’s minimum wage and requiring all employers to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

Missouri’s Secretary of State’s office has certified all three initiatives, saying that the minimum requirement of signatures was met and collected from Missouri voters. Only one citizen-led ballot initiative did not collect enough signatures and this was to grant a gaming license to a proposed casino on Osage River near the Lake of the Ozarks. Citizen-led Ballot initiatives only need a majority vote of 50% or over to pass.
