More Than Words: Tara Edmonds’ Love for Reading Inspires a Community

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR – Tara Edmonds’ journey with books and reading is nothing short of inspiring. As the daughter of devoted Baxter County Library donors Deborah and Jackie Edmonds, Tara grew up in a home where the importance of literacy was cherished and celebrated. Yet, despite this nurturing environment, Tara faced significant challenges.
The traditional education system didn’t accommodate her unique learning style, leaving her without the ability to read as a child. However, Tara’s story didn’t end there. With unwavering support from her parents and the guidance of a retired first-grade teacher, she learned to read. Through patience, love, and perseverance, Tara unlocked the world of literacy, which quickly became a passion.
Reading for Tara became more than just a skill; it became a way of connecting with the world. She has a special admiration for firefighters, her favorite community helpers, and loves using books as a means of discovery and learning. Her caring nature drives her to share the gift of literacy with others, ensuring that more people have access to the joy and opportunity that reading provides.
Tara is also a regular visitor to the Baxter County Library, a place she calls one of her favorite destinations. Her face lights up each time she walks through the doors, eager to explore the library’s treasures and engage with her favorite staff members. For Tara, the library is a haven—a space where her love for reading flourishes, and she feels connected to her community.
Recently, Tara became the first community member to fully stock the two new Little Free Libraries in Norfork, AR. Using books from her personal collection and her allowance, Tara filled these libraries with love and a deep desire to make books available to children who might not otherwise have access. Additionally, Tara donated enough children’s books to stock all 10 of the Baxter County Early Literacy Project Little Free Libraries in Baxter County, extending her impact even further!
Tara’s generosity reflects the heart of community and the life-changing impact of reading. Her story is a powerful reminder that literacy has the ability to transform lives, and no obstacle is too great when met with support and perseverance. For Tara, reading is more than words—it’s a spark lighting the way toward a brighter future for her community, one book at a time.
The Baxter County Library and the Baxter County Early Literacy Project are proud to celebrate Tara’s incredible contributions and her dedication to helping others discover the gift of reading. Her visits remind us all of the joy libraries bring and inspire us to ensure that every child and adult has access to books and the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.
