Mountain Home Man Drowns In White River

Mountain Home, AR. – A Mountain Home resident was pronounced dead following a boating incident on Friday, June 28, 2024.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched after receiving a call about a subject being in cardiac arrest. The man was 79-year-old Robert Vona, one of four occupants in the boat. They had left around 8 on Friday morning and anchored at the first shoals near the public launch area. The anchor got hung up which caused the boat to swing. Vona fell out of the boat while in his chair. He was underwater for two to three minutes before they could get him back in the boat.
