Movements To Legalize Abortion And Raise Minimum Wage Getting Put On November Ballot

Missouri – Two separate movements in Missouri recently collected enough signatures to get put on the November ballot. One movement is to legalize abortion in Missouri and the other is to raise the minimum wage and change pay for sick days.

Missourians for Healthy Families and Fair Wages turned in more than 210,000 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on May 1, 2024. If the movement is approved in November Missouri’s minimum wage would rise from $12.30 an hour to $13.75 an hour next year. The wage would then get raised again in 2026 to $15 an hour. The proposal would also require all employers to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. The Missourians for Healthy Families and Fair Wages still need to get 115,540 signatures from six of eight Congressional districts verified before the proposal is officially added to the November ballot.

The backers of a ballot initiative that would overturn the near total abortion ban in Missouri turned in over 380,000 signatures to the Sectary of State’s office on May 3, 2024. The Missouri-led group, including American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, and Abortion Action Missouri, still need to verify 172,000 of the signatures for it to be added to the November ballot. If it gets added to the ballot citizens will have the ability to vote on whether to legalize abortion or keep the ban.
