Over the weekend, the concrete blocks between Hass-Darr Hall and Melton Hall, on the campus of Missouri State University-West Plains, were spray painted with the words “Black Lives Matter.”
MSU-WP Interim Chancellor Dennis Lancaster provided Ozark Radio News the following comments:
“At Missouri State University-West Plains, we fully support freedom of expression within our campus community; however, this incident involves defacing university property. If it is determined that a student or students were involved, this would be a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
While this was an inappropriate action, we are aware of the broader issues involved and we want to continue that important dialogue on our campus. Just last week, campus administrators met with a group of students to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion issues to make sure that our students’ voices are being heard. We are looking into this incident and will respond according to our policies.”
