Mtn. View Police Chief speaks at chamber luncheon

On Tuesday, the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce held their luncheon at The Angel Garden and welcomed Jamie Perkins, Mountain View Chief of Police, as their guest speaker.  Perkins handed out CDC trick or treat recommendations and stated that Trick or Treating in Mountain View would be from 5-8 pm in the city.  The City of Mountain View urges the public to use caution and to have contactless trick or treating for safety precautions.

Perkins then updated the chamber on two new city ordinances that have recently gone into effect.  The first ordinance pertains to alcohol sales in the city limits.  Businesses are now allowed to sell alcohol until 1:30 am, changed from midnight prior to the approval.  The second ordinance pertained to fireworks, stating that now fireworks may be sold inside the city limits, and the regulations of personal firework use in the city limits.

On a state level, Perkins received updates on the motorcycle helmet laws.  Riders over 26 years of age who have a permanent motorcycle license and has proof of health insurance are no longer required to wear helmets.  Anyone who is under the age of 26 or has a permit will still be required to wear helmets in the state.  Perkins also added that the State is proceeding with digital drivers licenses that will be issued upon renewal of current license.

The PD recently received two $2500 grants from the Missouri Department of Transportation for Hazardous driving and DWI saturation purposes.  These grants will cover the pay of increased presence of patrolling officers to reduce hazardous drivers and those driving impaired.

While overall crime rates in Mountain View have declined to this point in 2020, property crimes have increased.  Through October the MVPD have made arrests in the following:
