Ava, MO. — Area livestock producers and farmers will have an opportunity to visit with University of Missouri Extension livestock specialist Elizabeth Picking during the Ava Growers Market on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Picking, a field specialist in livestock with MU Extension, will be available from 10 a.m. to noon at the gazebo on the Ava square to answer questions about livestock production, grazing and related agricultural programs.
Topics producers may discuss with Picking include feed and hay choices, nitrate problems in livestock feed, hay and pasture, mineral supplements, multi-species grazing and toxic weeds that may affect livestock.
Picking can also provide information about several MU Extension programs and resources, including Missouri AgrAbility, the Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program, Missouri Beginning Farmers and Ranchers, the MU Black Vulture Project and equine Extension programs.
Picking serves Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Taney, Texas and Wright counties as a livestock field specialist.
The event gives area farmers and livestock owners an opportunity to bring questions and speak directly with an Extension specialist while visiting the Growers Market.
