Murrell to retire from SCOCOG, Dalton to take over as executive director

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — After over 40 years of working to improve area communities, Johnny Murrell is retiring as director of the South Central Ozarks Council of Governments (SCOCOG).

SCOCOG is the local planning and development body that helps counties and municipalities within a seven-county area. Services include planning assistance and grant development, computerized mapping desktop publishing, funding research, and local project community development.

Murrell told Ozark Radio News after his final SCOCOG meeting on Tuesday that he started his career in 1979:

The meeting was held at the Ozarks Small Business Incubator in downtown West Plains.

Murrell’s final day on the job will be December 31. He is being replaced by Cody Dalton, who has been with SCOCOG for the past 8.5 years as a regional planner and recently, the assistant director.
