West Plains, MO. – Ozark Artery, in partnership with The Yellow House, is set to host an art show competition as its first public event. Entries for the show will be accepted Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Yellow House, 209 W. Trish Knight St. All mediums are welcome by artists of all ages, but youth entries will not be judged in a separate division. Work must be original, no kits and no copies.
The cost to enter is $5 for one piece or $10 for two or three pieces. Limit is three pieces. Cash prizes, to be determined by number of entries, will be awarded to winners. Pieces must be wired for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers. In the case of 3D works, suitable display equipment must be provided by the artist.
The show will be open to the public on select days over a two-week timeframe, including Nov. 17, 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Nov. 26 from noon to 6 p.m. in conjunction with Small Business Saturday. A reception will be held Nov. 18 from 4-8 p.m.
Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale, but it is not a requirement. For those who do price their pieces, images of the work along with the asking price will be posted on the Ozark Artery Facebook page with the artist’s permission. A 20 percent commission will be collected from sales, with 10 percent going to The Artery and 10 percent going to The Yellow House to help cover expenses for the show and use of the facility. Both organizations are not-for-profit.
Officials with Ozark Artery say that in addition to more art shows and exhibits, they plan to host other events in the future, including workshops in a variety of disciplines. They add that the Artery has been established to encourage creativity and to give local artists and artisans another outlet for artistic expression, hopefully enabling them to sell more of their work, including to a wider audience.
