Southern Missouri – Last night the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, was visible in southern Missouri. These dancing lights are normally only seen in the Northern Hemisphere, but they were visible further south due to an erratic change in the sun’s solar flares. The NOAA was predicting the Geomagnetic storm, which causes northern lights sightings, to be hitting the at G4 strength. An update from them this morning said they hit the highest strength at a G5 last night.
A recent weather forecast said there is a possible chance for another G3 storm tonight. Northern Missouri will have the opportunity to view it again. With the Geomagnetic storm only hitting a G3 southern Missouri may see them again. There is still a chance of the storm being upgraded to a G4, giving southern Missouri another opportunity to see a once-in-a-lifetime experience if you missed it last night.
Locals sent pictures of the northern lights, which are featured down below.
