NWS Surveys State Arkansas Tornadoes Reached EF-3 Rating for Boone, Marion, and Baxter Counties

Arkansas – In addition to the tornadoes that struck the Missouri Ozarks on Sunday, May 26th, Arkansas also saw several tornadoes on the same day during that morning, with their overall intensity equaling the EF-3 category rating that was also witnessed in Mountain View, MO., according to recent surveys from the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

As was stated in a previous post, at least three fatalities were reported as a result of Sunday mornings storms in Arkansas for Baxter and Marion Counties. However, on the official survey of one of these tornadoes and the addition of Boone County, the death toll has risen to 5.

The first tornado took place, originally, in Boone county, and traveled 21.1 miles into Marion County, starting at roughly 3:27am. Estimated peak wind speeds reported for the tornado was 140 miles per hour.

The second tornado started near the town of Briarcliff in Baxter County at 4:25am, and traveled 6.5 miles across the lake and toward Timber Lake Manor. Estimated peak wind speeds were also placed at 140 miles per hours.

Both tornadoes were classified as EF-3.
