Alton, MO. – Friday, August 7th, Oregon County Associate Commissioner Jake Parker released information regarding work being done across the northern section of Oregon County. The announcement may be read below.
Road Grading & Moisture Conditions
I fully understand and agree with citizens who are asking for grader attention on our roads. At this time, we must wait for several days of soaking rain before putting graders back out.
Without moisture, grading would turn the road surface into powder. Traffic would then create heavy dust, and we would lose a significant amount of road material — leaving behind larger rocks and worsening conditions. Fuel prices are also a factor in this decision.
Current Work Underway,while graders are parked, crews are continuing essential work across the northern district.
Culvert installations to improve drainage and prevent washouts, brush cutting throughout the district. Mulching overhead limbs to resolve clearance issues and prepare roads for larger dump‑truck access.
These steps ensure we can efficiently spread material once moisture returns.
Upcoming Rock & Material Placement. Citizens can expect large quantities of clay and crushed river rock to be delivered across the northern district very soon.
Hillsides and areas that typically become problems during winter will receive rock early to strengthen them ahead of the season.
My goal is to make another full pass over the district with graders before fall, followed by a substantial application of crushed, clean rock before winter. 14 miles of roads scheduled for complete rebuild are on pause until conditions allow.
Low‑Water Crossing Projects. The first five low‑water crossings are currently out for bid and due on the 13th of this month:CR 340,CR 425, CR 424 — Once these are awarded, five more crossings will be placed for bid.
Look for that announcement on the 14th.
