Gainesville, MO. – An Ozark County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felonies on Wednesday.
Samuel J. Deatherage, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of discharge or shoot a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, shoot at a person, motor vehicle, or building-persistent offender, and 4 years in prison for 3rd-degree assault. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Deatherage was arrested after Ozark County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance where the dispatcher heard multiple gunshots being fired while on the phone. Deputies found Deatherage, who was heavily intoxicated, had shot his sister in the head after threatening people with a Draco AK-47 variant pistol. The woman had been hiding behind a truck when the bullet penetrated the truck windows and struck her in the top of the forehead. His sister survived the incident that was witnessed by 2 other people. The witnesses and victim reported to law enforcement they were afraid he was going to kill them all. Three minor children were present during the incident.
