WEST PLAINS, MO – Ozarks Healthcare wishes to congratulate its latest nurse residency cohort for completion of its program. Ozarks Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program is a 12-week program for graduates of nursing school that features rotations through different departments of the hospital. Graduate nurses spent time in approximately 28 areas of our hospital over 12 weeks and are now employed by Ozarks Healthcare.
“Our nurse residency program emphasizes who Ozarks Healthcare is – neighbors caring for neighbors – and opens the door for many nurses to grow their career in healthcare locally,” Karlee Marvin, Ozarks Healthcare Education Supervisor and Nurse Residency Coordinator, said. “The program helps beginning nurses gain floor experience and build relationships with coworkers, which are invaluable to have as a new nurse.”
Upon completion of Ozarks Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program, graduate nurses will have identified their “niche” department or specialized service area. Because the program provides opportunities with hands-on experience, graduate nurses are able to identify which specialty they are most interested in (Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Surgery, Labor and Delivery, etc.), allowing them to typically secure a position in the area they are most interested in. The program also allows graduate nurses to experience Ozarks Healthcare’s culture of compassionate care before being hired, which bolsters them to become accustomed to the organization’s focus on increasing patient satisfaction and clinical excellence before they officially start their career.
Ozarks Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program begins in January and June of each year. The deadline to apply for the June 2021 cohort has ended, but applications for the January 2022 cohort will open soon. To be eligible, applicants must have completed an RN program within six months and have current RN licensure, preferred or scheduled, with successful completion of the NCLEX within 90 days.
