Ozarks Healthcare offering COVID-19 Vaccinations for Area Students at Athletic Physicals on July 22

WEST PLAINS, MO – With COVID-19 on the rise and the start of a new school year around the corner, Ozarks Healthcare will offer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for area student athletes participating in free athletic physicals for from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, at Ozarks Healthcare Pediatrics located at 312 Kentucky Ave. in West Plains.

“Although a smaller number of children have been infected with COVID-19 compared to adults so far, children can still be infected, get sick, and spread COVID-19 to others,” Dr. Priscilla Frase, Hospitalist and Chief Medical Information Officer, said. “Studies suggest the Delta variant, which is now the predominant strain in the U.S., is more contagious than what we have experienced over the past year. Even though children may not become as sick with COVID-19, everyone 12 years and older should get a COVID-19 vaccination to help us reach herd immunity. Widespread vaccination is critical in helping us reach the level of immunity needed to have more control over COVID-19.”

Students receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will be required to submit a signed consent form from his or her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) at the time of his or her physical. Students who are not accompanied by their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) will also be required to provide a phone number for a parent or legal guardian who can be reached at the time of his or her vaccination.

Regardless of whether students receive a COVID-19 vaccine, all students will be required to submit a signed consent/medical history form and provide current insurance information from a parent or legal guardian to receive a physical. Consent forms may be picked up between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the West Plains High School Office located at 602 E. Olden in West Plains.

Both forms are also available online at https://www.ozarkshealthcare.com/about-us/for-community/.

Local physicians, family nurse practitioners, and advanced practice nurses will conduct physicals for student athletes entering grades 7 through 12 at local schools.
