Howell County, MO. – The 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run happened yesterday on Wednesday, May 22nd. This yearly run is organized through the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a way to bring more awareness to the Missouri Special Olympics, as well as fund raise for local athletes.
This years race took place in locations in both Willow Springs and West Plains, and spanned roughly 10-11 miles. The last leg of the run began at Cedarhurst of West Plains, where Missouri Special Olympic athletes joined in with the law enforcement officers while carrying the symbolic torch. Senior citizens were there to witness the event, and to cheer on those running within this final push to Dairy Queen on Highway 63.
Sergeant Eddie Young with Troop G of the Highway Patrol, also gave his own summary of the event, and advocates for the benefits that Missouri Special Olympics provides.
