Public Invited To Alumni And Friends Picnic

West Plains, MO. – The Missouri State University-West Plains office is hosting the annual Alumni & Friends Picnic on May 2 in the exhibit hall at the West Plains Civic Center. This event is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m. Even though the event is free, MSU-WP is asking that people RSVP by April 25. This event will also include a drop-in social hour to celebrate MSU System President Clif Smart who is retiring on June 30. 

The musical entertainment will be provided by the West Plains High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Rocky Long. Several students from different degrees will be displaying their work and giving presentations during the Picnic. During this time the university will be presenting awards: the Outstanding Young Alum Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, Distinguished Faculty/Staff Award, and a Bear of Excellence Award.

The Outstanding Young Alum Award will be awarded to Lacey (Hall) Carter (Class of 2010), for her professional accomplishments. The Distinguished Alumni Award will be awarded to a former student, Grizzly Basketball alumnus Scott Roberts (Class of 1996), for his achievements in personal and professional endeavors. The Distinguished Faculty/Staff Award will be awarded to Donna Bassham, for her service to MSU-WP. The Bear of Excellence Award will be awarded to West Plains businessman and university supporter, Jerry Hall (Class of 1962), for his commitment to the community. The Bear of Excellence is awarded by the Missouri State Alumni Association in Springfield.
