Public Safety bill set goes into effect August 28

Senator Bill Eigel of Weldon Spring is the sponsor. Eigel believes increasing pressures on police officers is part of the reason for his proposal:

Another section of this law deals with addressing protests, specifically when they block traffic or impede emergency vehicles.

Senator Karla May of St. Louis believes this new law goes too far:

May was successful in adding an amendment that addresses helping officers cope with stress and trauma resulting from their job.

Senate Bill 26 will take effect on August 28, 2021 with some provisions set to become law at later times.
