West Plains, MO. – Two local rocketry teams are heading to the National Fly Offs in Washington DC. The two teams, Richards R5 Middle School Team and Zizzer High School Team competed against 722 other teams from across the country this year.
In order to qualify, they have to be in the top 100 teams in the nation. They will now be competing for $100,000 in cash and prizes and the title of National Champions. If they win the title of National Champions, they will represent the United States at the International Rocketry Competition taking place in England in July to compete against other countries from around the world.
Sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, The American Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is the world’s largest rocketry competition. Now in its 20th year, the American Rocketry Challenge has inspired more than 85,000 middle and high school students to explore education and careers in STEM fields. This year, more than 720 teams representing 41 states designed and built model rockets to carry 2 eggs to 835 ft. and return back to Earth safely in 41-43 seconds.
The National Finals will take place on Saturday, May 14 in The Plains, Virginia, not far from Washington DC.”
