Ruud Given Credit for Time Served Following Sentencing, Walks Free

West Plains, Mo. – The Ozark County woman who was found guilty of abandoning the corpse of her daughter is now free following sentencing on Thursday.

Rebecca Ruud was sentenced to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine for abandonment of a corpse, the deceased being her daughter Savannah Leckie, who was 16 at the time of her death. Ruud was found not guilty for the murder of Leckie in a bench trial held this summer.

Ruud was given credit for the five years she had spent in jail following her arrest in July of 2017 and has been released.

Her boyfriend at the time of arrest, Robert Peat, Jr., is also being charged in the death of Leckie.
