Schafer Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping

A West Plains man has been sentenced in a 2024 kidnapping case. Court records show Clayton Boyd Schafer pleaded guilty to second‑degree kidnapping and was sentenced on October 1st to five years in the Missouri Department of Corrections and five years of supervised probation. He must complete a batterer intervention program, undergo a mental‑health assessment within 90 days, and follow all recommendations. Schafer remains under supervision through Probation and Parole District 13.

The situation took place in November of 2024 when officers responded to a domestic assault case where Schafer bit his girlfriend, the victim then attempted to escape Schafer by running into a business, but Schafer stopped her and told her to get back in the vehicle or he would assault her. The victim attempted to escape Schafer a second time, and the victim felt that she could not leave the vehicle due to Schafer forcibly grabbing her arm according to the probable cause statement.

The original charges were kidnapping 1st degree and Domestic Assault 3rd degree.
