Willow Springs, MO. – The US Forest Service will be performing a prescribed burn of part of the Mark Twain National Forest in the area of Noblett Lake, which is west of Pomona and southwest of Willow Springs. Helicopter operations will be active as the service plans to burn 1,324 acres.
A prescribed fire is a fire ignited by highly trained wildland firefighting personnel under very specific fuel and weather conditions. Each prescribed burn will be conducted to minimize smoke impacts to local communities when favorable atmospheric conditions disperse smoke quickly.
These are the prescribe burn units happening today on the Forest:
- On the Salem Ranger District, the Casey Rx (west of Dillard, MO) will be 655 acres and will include helicopter operations.
- On the Poplar Bluff Ranger District, Miller Creek #3 (east of Elsinore and west of Williamsville) is 215 acres.
- On the ACW Ranger District, the Brushy Clayton Unit B (southeast of Bradleyville), at 1,300 acres will include helicopter operations
- Also on the ACW Ranger District, the Carman South 2 unit (southwest of Willow Springs), at 1,324 acres will also include helicopter operations.
