Semi Truck Driver Arrested For Driving Under The Influence Of Narcotics

Ava, MO. – On May 17, 2024, a semi-truck driver from Summersville was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

At 12:34 p.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and K9 Zeus were dispatched to assist a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper by the Walmart in Ava, where the Trooper had pulled over a semi-truck. The Trooper requested a K9 unit due do indicators of narcotics. Upon arrival, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Corporal conducted a field interview with the semi’s driver, Jeremy Shelton, who was giving off indicators of being under the influence. Shelton advised the officers that he took Hydrocodone an hour before being pulled over.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper asked for consent to search the truck, which Shelton refused. K9 Zeus, who was trained to detect the odor of Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, and methylenedioxymethamphetamine, was released to do a free air sniff search of the truck. K9 Zeus indicated controlled substances being near the front tire on the driver’s side. When advised that they would do a full vehicle search of the truck, Shelton got aggravated and told them they would not, to which the Corporal told them based on the dog’s alert they were allowed. 

Found in the vehicle were as follows, a set of digital scales, a crystalline substance that field tested positive for Methamphetamine, and a broken glass pipe which also field tested positive for Methamphetamine.

Shelton was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and a warrant for his arrest was issued with a bond of $2,500 cash. He is required to have CPS supervision twice weekly and is not allowed to have illegal drugs or any mood-altering substances. Jeremy Shelton has since posted bail.
