Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety Holds Update Meeting in Willow Springs

Willow Springs, MO. – The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety met up yesterday with citizens and law enforcement at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop G Headquarters in Willow Springs to discuss updates on the statistics on roadway crashes and dangers for the year of 2022, and numbers aren’t looking good.

Facts discussed during the meeting include that there is a 10% increase in overall fatalities, a 90% increase in alcohol-related fatalities, a 35% increase in motorcycle fatalities, and a whopping 140% increase in fatalities involving riders without helmets. In addition, 80% of those fatally injured in truck crashes were unbuckled.

In addition, there were grants covered in the meeting, including one called Project Prom, which can be read about HERE.

There was also talk of recent campaign, named the “Buckle Up, Phone Down” challenge, where all drivers are challenged to buckle up and isolate their phones as soon as the vehicle is entered. It can be read about by clicking HERE.
