Southern Missouri Folklore Festival March 25 in West Plains

The first Southern Missouri Folklore Festival will be held March 25, 2022 at the West Plains Civic Center. This festival will give residents of all ages from southern Missouri a chance to share their stories and folklore. The Festival is presented by the Missouri State University-West Plains University/Community Programs Department.

Stories must be submitted by March 1, 2022. A winner from each age bracket will perform their story at the festival. Stories must be submitted in the form of a Google Document, with a link to the Google Document submitted Here

Age Brackets include:

  • Grades 4-6: 1-2 page story, 12 pt. font, double spaced
  • Grades 7-9: 2-4 page story, 12 pt. font, double spaced
  • Grades 10-12: 3-6 page story, 12 pt. font, double spaced
  • College students: 4-8 page story, 12 pt. font, double spaced
  • Community Members: 4-8 page story, 12 pt. font, double spaced

Stories must be on one of the following topics: Family History, Family biography, Childhood memory, Personal growth story, Local historical event, Local historical figure biography, or Regional lore or legend.
