Ava, MO. – A theft and burglary case from March of this year has received a major update in the form of a suspect being arrested just a few days ago.
On July 22nd, James Elmer Smith, a Springfield resident, was arrested on one felony count of stealing, and one felony count of forgery.
Smith has used a victims check at a business in Springfield, which led to the security footage being reviewed and a positive identification from an Ava Police Lieutenant. The check had likely been stolen in a burglary incident that occurred on March 4th, where a residence was broken into, items were stolen, and copper wires were cut out.
Smith has 17 prior arrests with charges similar to this incident. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
