St. Louis man drowns at Johnson’s Shut-Ins

West Plains, MO. – A St. Louis man drowned on Tuesday while swimming in the Black River. 

The incident occurred at Johnson’s Shut-Ins in Reynolds County at 4:20 pm. Emigdio Cuevas, age 24, had been swimming in the river when he began to struggle, and was unable to surface.

Cuevas was pronounced deceased at 5:35 pm. 

This is the 5th drowning for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop G in 2023 compared to zero at the same time last year.
