The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a national student organization that focuses on Family and Consumer Sciences and operates within the school system. Students participate in varying competitive events, engage in community service and student leadership opportunities where they obtain skills that are applicable for real word application in careers and continuing education.

Among those students visiting the Capitol for Job Shadow Day were Renee Nash of Alton, Katie Brennan and Logan Walls, both of Cabool. These esteemed guests shadowed both Representative Cook and Representative Doyle Justice for the duration of the day. Brennan and Walls executed some of their FCCLA skills by presenting a budget request for a project on behalf of the Cabool YMCA to Budget Chair, Representative Cody Smith and Appropriations Chair, Senator Lincoln Hough.

The special day also included meeting with Speaker of the House, Dean Plocher, witnessing official House proceedings in the House Chambers, sitting in on a hearing committee, and an official tour of the historical Capitol.

Cook, R-Houston, enthusiastically stated, “It is always an honor to host students at the Capitol. I am glad they took the time to come here and allowed us to show them the process for the day. Their participation in FCCLA is already preparing them for success.
