Texas County Murder suspect refuses plea deal, Trial to start mid-August

Houston, MO. – A trial date has been set for a Texas County murder suspect after he refused a plea deal. Adam Reams will stand trial for the murder of Billy Hayes, Jr. beginning on August 14, 2023.

Reams went before the Texas County Court on February 21st with his attorney and refused a plea bargain that would have put Reams in prison for 30 years. After choosing to move to trial, Judge John Beger set a pre-trial conference for July 11th and a jury trial for August 14th to 18th.

Reams is accused of 1st-degree murder, armed criminal action, and abandonment of a corpse. On June 2, 2021, Houston Police responded to a report of a stabbing. upon arrival, Billy J. Hayes, Jr. was found deceased with multiple stab wounds. An investigation led to the arrest of Reams.
